Molly B. (born 1963) was born in Greensboro, NC. She is a self taught artist who began painting in 1993. She has lived in Charleston SC since 1969. Mollie lives with her husband David Boatwright nearby her downtown studio. David is also an artist. The couple has three children. Her subject matter has ranged from minimalist figurative works to vignettes of her childhood. She has created more than 100 pieces, most of which have been commissioned. Occasionally she has had the opportunity to make things that are not commissioned pieces.
Molly studied at College of Charleston and at AS Agriculture, TTC, Charleston, SC. She has attended several solo exhibitions including Charleston City Gallery, Dwelling, Charleston, SC, Open Studio at the Karpeles Museum, Charleston, SC, and at Barneys NYC, 660 Madison Avenue, where her pieces were displayed and sold through Personal Shopping. The group exhibitions she has taken part in includes Blue Spiral 1, Asheville, NC, Charleston Contemporary at the Waterfront City Gallery, SC, Center for Women, Gallery 53 Cannon, Charleston, SC, The Head Show, Salon 45, Charleston, SC, The Head Show, Halsey Gallery at the College of Charleston, SCAD, Pinnacle Gallery, “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory”, America Oh Yes, Washington, DC, Portfolio Gallery, Columbia, SC, and Footlight Players Gallery.
Molly has always been influenced by what she observes. In all her artwork, she brings many textured mediums to mix with her great sense of color and light. These have allowed her to obtain the unique look on her pieces. Her work has been published in many magazines such as the New York Times, T Magazine, the House & Home Magazine, the Charleston Style and Design magazine, and the Art Magazine, Charleston, SC.
